Who We Are

CouldBeUsThe Lewis Institute is an association of professionals from a number of disciplines who do training, consulting, and coaching in a variety of areas. The company was founded in 1981 by Dr. James P. Lewis, Ph.D., who continues as the president of the company. Since that time we have provided training in project management to over 35,000 individuals in 30 countries and general management training to another 10,000 primarily in the United States. Dr. Lewis is the author of 12 top-selling books on project management.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide training, consulting, and coaching that will enable individuals to achieve the highest performance of which they are capable, while simultaneously enabling them to be self-correcting and self-generative. This means that we do not create dependence on us for continued growth and development of our clients.

Our Vision

We want to have a global clientele who think of us as a premier provider of both live and online programs that they can use to fully develop their skills at very competitive prices.

Our Values

We believe in the dignity and value of every individual and that the most respectful behavior we can express is the expectation that each person perform to the best of his or her ability. To that end, we try to help every client become independent of us as soon as possible. As the old saying goes, “If you teach a person to fish, you don’t have to continue feeding him.”

We believe that learning is a joint responsibility between the teacher and the learner, but we also expect our instructors to employ the most effective learning technology available. This includes accelerated learning methods, whole-brain instructional design, and personalized assistance where possible.

We also believe that every individual embodies unique abilities and that failing to recognize individual differences is one of the greatest failings of education. Thus, we believe that a person gifted in art, for example, should be encouraged to express that gift, rather than being required to engage in work for which he or she has no talent. We believe that it is inappropriate to define success as just having a high income and high status; that it should be defined as doing something a person loves to do, while simultaneously making a contribution to society and making a satisfactory living.
